Availability & Rates
I am currently available for project-based and hourly work. My current rates vary from roughly $40.00 per hour for less demanding work to upwards of $175.00 per hour for the most demanding and deadline-driven jobs. Unless otherwise specified, my preference is to be paid hourly or per project.
I try to be as fair as possible, both to myself and the people hiring me. This means that I quote on a case-by-case basis, factoring in how much of me—in the form of time, cognitive labor, patience, and flexibility—clients will need for the work to match their vision for the project. For example, a high-level content design contract for a complex project involving a lot of availability on nights and weekends would be on the high end of the range, whereas editorial/rewriting work for an organized client with a clear idea of what the final product needs to look like during daytime business hours would be far less of a drain and therefore would cost the client less.
I also offer a sliding scale when possible for individual and organizational clients with limited budgets. If you’re looking at the $40.00 hourly figure and thinking, “There’s no way I can manage that,” I won’t be offended if you reach out with a brief description of what you’re looking for and a ballpark of what you could pay, and I will do my best to accommodate you. In many cases, I’d prefer to be paid less and work for a client I really want to help than paid more by a client whose mission or reason for needing me isn’t something that excites me at the level of personal interests and values. If you need help and can make a case for us working together, it never hurts to ask. If I am unable to provide the kind of help you need for what you can pay, I may be able to refer you to someone who can or suggest some free resources.
